Designing & Leading Engagement is a Level 2 course that introduces practitioners to the design and plan phases of the practice framework, providing them with the opportunity to develop public participation and engagement practice plans. This includes scoping, community mapping, determining purpose and objectives and levels of influence, choosing appropriate methods and managing resources, while considering the needs of diverse audiences.

Richard Delaney has been a public participation practitioner for almost 35 years – initially in the Government of Ontario and the Government of Canada as a public servant, working on environmental, transportation and defence files, and then as a consultant. Richard founded Delaney + Associates (D+A) in 1996; since that time, he has led, designed, planned and undertaken +400 stakeholder and public engagement projects, specializing in the areas of health, environment, transportation and education. Richard is known for his expertise in supporting science-based regulatory, policy and program decisions. He developed training related to managing advisory groups for the federal government and business, including an approach to ongoing public and stakeholder advisory services that is highly regarded. He has a reputation for bringing calm to complex engagements filled with high emotion.
