(Virtual Training) Indigenous Inclusion: Putting the TRC Calls into Action

Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) offered a roadmap to improved relationships between Indigenous and all Canadians through the 94 Calls to Action. These actions are directed at Canadian governments, corporations, institutions, and citizens, and describe the important role that decision-makers have to play in charting the course for a renewed country in which all citizens have the opportunity to benefit from the prosperity of this land. Yet many organizations and citizens are not sufficiently equipped to respond and take action in meaningful and culturally inclusive ways. This course offers foundational knowledge, real-life examples, and dynamic problem-solving for individuals working to advance Indigenous inclusion within their professional and personal communities.

Please note that scheduling online training is very different from face-to-face. This online course will be offered in thee, two and a half hour sessions.

Just like face-to-face training, we expect all participants to attend all sessions listed in the event.

Learning Objectives:

Through this course, participants will:

• Reflect on their current level of knowledge and understanding with respect to the history and experiences of Indigenous Peoples in Canada;
• Understand basic facts about Canada’s history of colonization, the Indian Act, Indian Residential Schools, and intergenerational trauma;
• Understand the purpose of the Truth & Reconciliation Commission and recall which of the 94 Calls to Action are relevant to their personal and professional communities;
• Understand complexities related to Indigenous inclusion in decision-making contexts;
• Discuss and define strategies and activities related to Indigenous inclusion and the implementation of relevant Calls to Action;
• Develop a Reconciliation Action Plan that is specific to the learner’s personal and/or professional interests.
