Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in P2 and Engagement

Learn how to design engagement that is inclusive, equitable, and culturally responsive.

About This Course

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) in P2 and Engagement is a Level 2 course in the IAP2 Global Learning Pathway. It builds on the Fundamentals course to deepen your understanding of DEI principles and their role in engagement practice.

You will examine how power imbalances, exclusion, and systemic inequities impact engagement processes. The course provides opportunities to critically reflect on your own lens as a practitioner, and to develop practical approaches that lead to more equitable outcomes.

By the end of the course, you will have created your own Equity Lens for P2 and Engagement. This tool will help you plan, design, implement, and evaluate processes that centre equity and foster more inclusive decision making.

Why Take This Course

Exclusion and inequity in engagement create broken relationships, loss of trust, and outcomes that reinforce systemic disadvantages. Equitable engagement moves beyond inclusion by addressing both process and outcome, shifting influence to historically marginalized communities.

This course gives you the skills and frameworks to design engagement that values lived experiences, acknowledges historical and systemic barriers, and creates space for shared decision making.

Expected Outcomes

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • Identify the impacts of exclusion and inequity in P2 and engagement.

  • Define and apply DEI concepts in the context of engagement.

  • Recognize how practitioner identity, power, and privilege influence engagement.

  • Apply intersectionality to design more equitable processes.

  • Use strategies for decolonizing engagement with Indigenous communities.

  • Develop and apply your own Equity Lens to embed equity at every stage of engagement.
