Five Steps to Certification

Assess Your Readiness
Review the CP3 Core Competencies and ensure you meet the eligibility requirements. Evaluate your experience and training to date.

Complete Required Training
Enroll in IAP2-approved courses covering the competencies you need to develop. Courses can be taken at your own pace within the program timeline.

Document Your Experience
Gather and organize evidence of your public participation and engagement work. Prepare case studies and project documentation demonstrating competency application.

Submit Your Application
Complete the CP3 application form with your training completion records, experience documentation, and written reflections on your practice.

Assessment Centre & Designation
Attend the Assessment Centre where you present your work to a panel of assessors. Upon successful assessment, you receive the CP3 designation.
Program Requirements
What's Required for CP3 Designation
The CP3 Designation Program consists of core competencies, training, experience, and a rigorous application and assessment process.
Five Core Competencies
Foundational, Intermediate, and Advanced knowledge across all five competency areas required for effective public participation practice.
Minimum Training Hours
Completion of a specified number of approved training courses through IAP2 Canada to develop and strengthen your competencies.
Documented Practice
Minimum three years of public participation and engagement experience, with documented examples across diverse contexts and project types.
