    The Public Engagement Coordinator will work closely with research, engagement communications, and external relations team members and project teams to provide integrated research, engagement, external relations and communications services.

    Your success will be measured by your ability to achieve results in a respectful, inclusive and service-minded way.

    What will you do?

    • Assist in the implementation of elements of integrated research, engagement, external relations and communications plans involving a range of activities and projects
    • Draft and proof copy for surveys, engagement display boards, online engagement, news releases, public service service announcements, backgrounder documents, collateral materials, newsletters, advertising copy, key messages, speaking notes, with a focus on engagement materials
    • Generate story ideas, social media posts and media activities to advance the project’s goals
    • Develop engaging content for the City of Edmonton’s engagement portal, websites and digital channels
    • Provide communications support for public engagement events
    • Plan and support the implementation of in person and online engagement events such as the booking of space, space planning, catering, digital management of attendees, digital and in person meeting setup, recording feedback, and other logistics
    • Coordinate and facilitate messaging for media, and internal and external communications
    • Liaise with internal colleagues, external suppliers and stakeholders
    • Coordinate revisions, approvals, production and distribution of communication materials (e.g., print, posters, leaflets, brochures, guides, newsletters, videos and advertisements) and liaise with suppliers and other members of the Communications and Engagement department to ensure products meet objectives and specifications, on time and within budget
    • Achieve results with a commitment to a respectful and inclusive style
    • Perform other related duties as required

    Qualifications

    • Completion of a two-year post-secondary diploma in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, English, or a related discipline
    • Minimum of two years of experience in a designated corporate public engagement, communications, public relations, public affairs, public information or related position, ideally within a large complex organization
    • Knowledge of public engagement, public relations, corporate communications principles, and corporate marketing principles and techniques 

    Skills required for success:

    • Demonstrated ability to gather technical information from clients and translate it into accessible engagement and communications materials
    • A proven ability to manage multiple projects and deliver quality engagement and communication products and advice on time
    • General knowledge of advertising, media, social media, video and design coordination, and print production
    • Proven track record of building effective working relationships with staff, clients and internal groups at all levels of an organization; demonstrated respectful and inclusive working style
    • Strong written and verbal communications skills, with demonstrated experience creating formal business materials
    • Experience and proficiency with contemporary computer technologies (e.g. Google platform etc.)
    • Demonstrated ability to achieve results in the context of a respectful, inclusive and service-minded style
    • Willingness to listen, learn and lead with empathy, develop your Leadership Competencies and align yourself with Communications and Engagement Strategic Pillars: People Leadership, Integration, Service Excellence and Business Professionalism

    Work Environment:

This position will be responsible for providing strategic and tactical advice to senior staff; planning and executing various communications materials, including plans, briefs, presentations, reports, and public notifications; and developing and managing communications and engagement strategies to mitigate potential impacts of project activities.

    SUMMARY
    The position is responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of the stakeholder engagement strategy and delivery of initiatives. 

    ACCOUNTABILITIES 
    • Develops and implements an enterprise-wide stakeholder engagement strategy that fosters understanding, seeks feedback on BCFSA guidance, and sets expectations with external stakeholders to build awareness, enhance transparency, and advance BCFSA’s mandate. 
    • Advances equity, diversity, and inclusion in the stakeholder engagement strategy and initiatives to support and inform regulatory programs and services.
    • Leads projects and manages initiatives to support engagement strategies, securing resources to achieve stakeholder relationship goals. 
    • Manages expectations through the prudent balancing of needs and developing mutually acceptable and feasible solutions. 
    • Directs planning and execution of external events relating to regulatory initiatives including policy and legislative changes, industry and public consultations, and program developments. 
    • Identify opportunities, challenges, and emerging issues; work with leadership to plan and execute appropriate strategies and messaging to support BCFSA‘s mandate. 
    • Develop and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders including government, taking a proactive and strategic approach to stakeholder relations and issues management. 
    • Leads and/or participates in strategic and operational planning and reporting to contribute to BCFSA’s core values and mandate. 
    • Develops success criteria and establishes monitoring and measurement processes and practices to evaluate the outcomes of engagement activities and identify opportunities for future improvement.
    • Directs the development of operational/corporate policies and procedures, performance standards and service levels with the goal of continuous improvement. 
    • Manages and controls a budget and makes fiscally responsible decisions.
    • Provides supervision, coaching, and mentorship to allow Team Members to achieve their full potential.
    JOB REQUIREMENTS 
    • Experience supervising employees. 
    • Comprehensive knowledge of stakeholder engagement and issues management. 
    • Experience applying equity, diversity and inclusive practices to gain an understand stakeholder’s interests and priorities. 
    • Exceptional collaboration, communication, facilitation, presentation, and interpersonal skills. 
    • Experience managing complex, politically sensitive, and urgent issues. 
    • Proficient in developing strategies and implementing workplans related to stakeholder engagement and brand management. 
    • Experience leading change and anticipating future needs. 
    • Experience with negotiation and conflict resolution. 
    EDUCATION
    • Degree in Communications or Public Relations with significant experience developing stakeholder relationships, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
