Jessica Delaney is a seasoned engagement and communications professional with 15 years of experience working with government, private and not-for-profit sectors.

She provides clients with engagement, facilitation and strategic communications services in her strength sectors that include municipal government, sustainable housing, and healthcare. Jessica has planned, implemented and reported on over 100 comprehensive and inclusive engagements using a variety of in-person and online engagement techniques. Her approach to community, public, stakeholder and Indigenous engagement is to make it safe, inclusive, fun and practical.

Jessica is a passionate trainer, facilitator, and communicator. She works to facilitate learning by focusing on adult learning best practices – making the content relevant, motivating, fun, and interactive – and generously sharing her engagement experiences, lessons learned and practical tips. Her hallmark characteristic is the care and compassion she brings to every classroom. In 2013, after a rewarding career in municipal government, she joined the family business, Delaney + Associates, established almost 25 years ago by her father, where she now serves as Principal, Strategic Communications and Engagement. In this role, she manages the Vancouver office and leads the engagement, communications, facilitation, and training projects for Western Canada. Jessica and her family live in British Columbia’s beautiful Okanagan Valley, where she spends time with her family enjoying the lakes, mountains and – yes – the wineries!

Richard Delaney has been a public participation practitioner for almost 35 years – initially in the Government of Ontario and the Government of Canada as a public servant, working on environmental, transportation and defence files, and then as a consultant. Richard founded Delaney + Associates (D+A) in 1996; since that time, he has led, designed, planned and undertaken +400 stakeholder and public engagement projects, specializing in the areas of health, environment, transportation and education. Richard is known for his expertise in supporting science-based regulatory, policy and program decisions. He developed training related to managing advisory groups for the federal government and business, including an approach to ongoing public and stakeholder advisory services that is highly regarded. He has a reputation for bringing calm to complex engagements filled with high emotion.

Working with an adult education team at D+A, Richard has delivered +100 Foundations/Certificate programs; in addition, he delivers several customized D+A courses including: Facilitating Engagement; Managing High Emotions in Community Engagement; Project Management for Engagement; and, Patient, Family and Community Engagement. Richard generously shares his engagement experiences with training participants and in doing so, brings course content to life in a practical and energizing way.

Richard is passionate about engagement for effective public policy, project efficiency, and sustainability and social justice. His mission is to help organizations build capacity for effective and authentic engagement – through his training practice and his consulting-related coaching and mentoring work. Richard moved recently to the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia, where he enjoys hiking, skiing and spending family time with his two young grandsons.

Tracey brings groups together to explore ideas, opportunities and issues.  She approaches public participation as a learning process, for everyone.  This is based on a belief that individual and collective learning hold great potential for positive, transformative change. 

Tracey has over two decades of professional experience in facilitation, public and stakeholder engagement, environmental communications and environmental and strategic planning.  Tracey’s energetic and attentive style has assisted communities locally and internationally to develop supported, realistic solutions and achieve shared goals. Her project involvement has focused on complex projects in the areas of energy, sustainability, public water system management, municipal planning, transportation and public transit, waste management, wastewater infrastructure, and community development.  Within these projects, Tracey has designed, led and documented hundreds of events and processes to meet the unique needs of each client and the affected stakeholder groups, while managing controversy, outrage and budget limitations, multiple agendas and influences beyond the project.   

Tracey is a mom, partner, adventurer, student and small business owner who believes in volunteerism and building innovative, creative, safe and supportive communities.  She has been an active volunteer with IAP2 and the Ontario Professional Planners Institute for over a decade.  She is excited to be a part of the IAP2 training community, and looks forward to meeting, learning and sharing stories with everyone she meets in the Foundations (Planning) course.

Kim Hyshka, CP3 is a believer that just about anything is possible with a little dialogue. She’s on a mission, to chart a different course for public conversations, better conversations that open possibility, cultivate collaboration and spark change through dialogue. With over 10 years working in the field of engagement, she has developed a passion for designing and facilitating conversations that matter and creating engagement experiences where participants feel valued, relationships are built and initiatives and projects move forward. You’ll find her in the midst of both large and small-scale projects, bringing experience facilitating community forums in large urban centers or walking pipelines with Elders in the remote wilderness.

Kim's everyday experience includes leading and planning engagement and facilitation processes. She often provides expert advice to senior managers and project teams on the most effective means of involving those affected by the decisions to be made. Kim has worked with public organizations, governments, and private companies across Canada as well as internationally, and has worked with clients in multiple sectors such as energy, healthcare, education, and land use planning.

Kim sees each engagement project as a new opportunity to create, design, and implement unique processes and programs that allow stakeholders to actively engage in dialogue where they build new connections and relationships. These relationships are the foundation on which new ideas and collaborative efforts are built upon and succeed in implementation.

Hugo Mimee has over 25 years of solid experience as a professional in public and citizen participation, facilitation and in community relations. Hugo brings people together on different types of projects (urban planning, environment, transportation, energy, sports, culture) and has facilitated hundreds of public meetings of all kinds, both for Hydro-Québec and with his business Table ronde Participation publique. He delivers training in public participation, on meeting facilitation including in challenging contexts.. 

Hugo is also a lecturer at University of Québec in Montréal (UQAM) for their master's degree in project management and a member of the Québec’s urban planning association. He recently completed multiple terms as vice-president of the Board of Directors of IAP2 Canada and the Association québécoise pour la participation publique (AQP2).

Amanda Mitchell has over fifteen years of experience designing public engagement processes that meaningfully involve the public in policy decisions. Her work is creative and attention-getting while also strategic and results-oriented. She thrives helping engagement practitioners fine-tune their skills.

Amanda is passionate about cities and the bulk of her experience has been with local governments. At the City of Vancouver, Amanda has worked with staff to increase their skills and confidence for public engagement. She has provided strategic advice on process design and implementation on over 75 projects from neighbourhood land use plans to City-wide strategic plans like the Greenest City Action Plan.

Amanda is a strong believer in peer-to-peer networks. As most municipal governments are grappling with similar issues, Amanda helped establish a Canadian Municipal Public Participation Network where local government practitioners can get advice from their peers in other cities.

Amanda has been involved with IAP2 Canada since 2014 and has served as a deputy board member, board member and Vice-President. In 2015 the City of Vancouver won an Honourable Mention for Organization of the Year as part of the IAP2 Canada Core Values Awards for the work of the Engaged City Task Force. She has been a licensed IAP2 Foundations trainer since 2018.

As a trainer, Amanda creates a learning environment that is relevant, experiential and draws on the experience in the room. Learning is cemented through reflections and case study exercises. She draws on stories and uses humour and a variety of teaching methods to keep things fresh. Amanda has led trainings in Vancouver, North America, and Scandinavia.

In her spare time, Amanda can be found outside, exploring the coast in her foldable kayak, the city by bike, and the mountains with her Girl Guides.

Experience as a public participation practitioner

A bilingual career public servant with the Canadian federal government, Mary Moreland has more than 20 years of experience contributing to national public participation initiatives such as the creation of the Canadian Biotechnology Advisory Committee, the implementation of the National Innovation and Learning Engagement Strategy, coordinating outreach activities during the United Nations Climate Change Conference as well as working on secondment to other regulatory departments such as Health Canada (Office of Consumer and Public Involvement) and Environment Canada (Corporate Consultations Directorate). While her work is often at the national level, her community volunteer commitments keep her grounded in what’s happening at the local level. Mary has been an accredited trainer for IAP2’s five day Public Participation Certificate Course since 2005.

Mary has presented P2 themed sessions at conferences and in university and other class settings. For workshops, she strives to design creative and interactive panel sessions reflecting the best of P2 practices. Mary pioneered the launch of IAP2’s French language training and volunteered her time (and friends’!) to revise translations. She is the only IAP2 trainer delivering courses in French and has been a supporter over the years of AIP2 France and it’s unfolding. Mary is active with IAP2 Canada and is a member of the IAP2 St. Lawrence chapter. She is also engaged with the government’s P2 community, which she finds key to staying current.

Early on Mary worked with national and international youth and community development programs in Canada and in Pakistan, which fostered her cross cultural training and facilitation skills based on adult education principles. A wonderful part of training for Mary is the opportunity to learn from participants as they share their stories about the consultations they have worked on and talk about how they might improve their next ones by implementing what they are learning from their IAP2 courses and from their peers.

Pour les ateliers, elle s'efforce de concevoir des séances de panel créatives et interactives reflétant les meilleures pratiques de P2. Mary a été pionnière dans le lancement de la formation en français de l'AIP2 et a donné de son temps (et celui de ses amis !) pour réviser les traductions. Gay Robinson has over 30 years’ experience in public consultation, facilitation and stakeholder relations. Throughout her career she has been drawn to working with clients who realize the benefits of involving stakeholders in decision-making.

After a successful career in government, not-for-profit, education and the private sector, Gay opened her consulting practice in 1999. Her client list includes energy companies, regulators, community groups, local governments, not-for-profits and industry associations. Based in Alberta, Canada, much of her work is in the energy sector, pushing to raise the bar and establish best practices for stakeholder engagement. Gay has facilitated a number of multi-stakeholder groups and is active in Synergy Alberta – a network of grassroots community groups working on oil and gas related issues.

Gay is an active member of IAP2 – as a licensed trainer since 2005 and in various leadership roles regionally, nationally and internationally. She is an IAP2 Canada Certified Public Participation Professional (CP3) and serves as an assessor for this professional certification program. She currently serves on the Board for the IAP2 Wild Rose Chapter as Treasurer and is co-chair for the IAP2 2020 North American conference.

Gay is a founding member of the Canadian Trainers Collective (CTC), a cooperative of IAP2-licensed Canadian trainers, whose mission is to provide professional development to practitioners and others who wish to enhance relations with their stakeholders. Stephani Roy McCallum is the “Chief Storm Rider” at the Courageous Leadership Project. She is a Leadership Coach, Certified Professional Facilitator, and a seasoned leader specializing in conflict, high emotion and controversy. She has worked internationally on controversial projects with individuals, organizations and communities to transform conflict and create momentum for positive change. Stephani believes that brave, honest conversations solve the problems in our world.

She has led and managed conversations involving more than 30,000 participants, and has worked on five continents facilitating complex topics like municipal budgets, school closures, land use, health care, transportation, nuclear waste, natural disaster, truth and reconciliation, environment and more.

Stephani has been the Project Lead on a number of international and national award winning projects, including a project which received the IAP2 International Core Values Award for finding common ground and a way forward for the blood donation policy for men who have had sex with other men for Canadian Blood Services, a highly divisive and polarizing issue.

She has been a licensed trainer of the International Association of Public Participation (IAP2) Foundations in Public Participation since 2005, and was a lead developer of IAP2’s Strategies for Public Opposition and Outrage course. She was an IAP2 Assessor, coach and mentor for new candidate trainers for all of IAP2's training programs from 2011 to 2016, and continues to serve as an Assessor and Coach for new trainers of the Outrage program. She was the 2008 President of IAP2 International. Stephani has a background in Sociology and holds certificates in Co-active coaching, Courageous Leadership, Authentic Leadership, community development & alternative dispute resolution. She has worked on the collaborative development of a municipal engage policy and framework, training of engagement courses, creation of engagement strategies and plans for complex and controversial multi-stakeholder projects, implementation of a large variety of digital and in-person engagement tactics, and facilitation for many types of engagement activities.

Within her public participation practice, she has had the opportunity to work with many lines of business including parks, land use planning, transportation, law, public art, fire, police, community development and affordable housing.

Currently she is working in Stakeholder Relations for a 5-billion-dollar transit project with The City of Calgary. Her work involves developing and implementing strategies for stakeholder and public engagement.

She has been a member of the International Association of Public Participation (IAP2) since 2005 and is on the board for the local chapter. She became a licensed trainer for the IAP2 Foundations Program in 2014. She is also serving on the IAP2 Canada North America Conference Fun Committee.

Lara is an associate of the Canadian Trainers Collective (CTC), a cooperative of IAP2-licensed Canadian trainers, whose mission is to provide professional development to practitioners and others who wish to enhance relations with their stakeholders. Tanushree has over 20 years of experience in journalism, communications, and public engagement. She has planned and implemented engagements using both in-person and virtual engagement techniques for sectors like government, transportation, non-profit, and education. She focuses her work on amplifying the voices of equity-denied groups and pursuing racial equity and justice across all sectors of society. Tanushree's experience includes planning both virtual and in-person engagement, workshops and focus groups, media relations, vendor management, report writing, and developmenting communications and engagement plans.

She is also the co-chair of IAP2 Canada's DEI Community of Practice where she brings in case studies and speakers to highlight meaningful engagement.

Shawn leads the WSP ENGAGE Team across Western Canada and the National WSP Public Engagement and Facilitation Centre of Excellence. With over 20 years of experience, Shawn has led the design and implementation of meaningful engagement outcomes for effective decision-making for many multi-disciplinary projects such as active modes, municipal and regional planning, transportation, parks and recreation, and community building.
