Adding new tools to our Technology Tool Kit : How can we use technology to add breadth and depth to our engagement?

Presenters:

Susanna Haas Lyons, M.A., is a public engagement specialist who has worked on some of North America’s largest and most complex citizen engagement projects, including electoral reform in British Columbia, rebuilding post-Hurricane Katrina New Orleans, and the City of Vancouver’s transportation future. Social media and online engagement tools are now essential for successful public participation. The challenge is how to use these emerging tools in ways that are meaningful, accessible, inclusive and productive. In this webinar, Susanna will discuss principles and examples of effective social media for public engagement.

Sharon Matthias, "Pragmatic Provocateur" and moderator, Alberta Land-Use Knowledge Network. Creating an innovative online community conversation and learning experience is one way that Sharon helps government, public and nonprofit organizations in a world of Big Change to "transcend normal by design". Sharon will share how to create diverse, online communities that engage in conversations that are complex, controversial and full of opportunity.

Keith Reeves, station manager, City of Austin (TX) Channel 6. In his work running the city's government TV channel, Keith has incorporated TV and video technology for engagement. In moving from primarily covering council and committee proceedings to providing diverse programming, Channel 6 has won countless state and national awards and nominations. In 2011, Keith received the Brian Wilson Memorial Award for his contribution to government TV in his community from the National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors (NAOTA).
