Thank you for joining us here at IAP2! We are excited to have you join us online for our first ever Virtual North American Conference (September 8-11)!

Below you will find several step-by-step guides to help you join us successfully online. Watch for our pro-tips to make it a great experience!

Pro Tip: When adding the event to your favorite digital calendar add a notification to alert you 45-minutes prior to your live session!

Technology Setup

When preparing for a live session, make sure that you will be in a noise-free or reduced noise area with a solid internet connection.

We recommend joining on a desktop. The desktop Zoom App is a bit more intuitive, plus the screen size will be bigger so you will be able to view course materials a lot more readily.

Pro-Tip: It has been most successful when participants attend the visual portion of the session on a computer and use their phone to call in for audio. This helps keep your computer speed up to snuff!

  • Reducing white noise
  • Increasing the clarity of your voice
  • Cancelling out external noises from you environment

It doesn’t need to be an expensive headset, it just needs to have a microphone.

How to Join the "Zoom Room"

Before joining a Zoom meeting on a computer or mobile device, you can download the Zoom app from our Download Center. Otherwise, you will be prompted to download and install Zoom when you click a join link.

You can also join a test meeting to familiarize yourself with Zoom.

For those who are unable to download the app due to employer restrictions, you may join in browser.  To learn more about this option, read the linked article from zoom:

Get the Most Out of Online Training

  • Give yourself a buffer - Give yourself 30 minutes before and after a live session to practice good self care, troubleshoot or prepare your technology, and get in the mindset to participate in your online learning journey.
  • Raise your camera: Set up your device so you are sitting at eye level to the lens (finally, a use for the pile of books you hope to read!)
  • Lighting: Choose a place to sit where you have plenty of natural or overhead light on your face, and avoid having strong beams of light behind you
  • Don’t multitask! Close all other windows and applications to support your own learning and contribute to a high quality experience for the whole group

Troubleshooting Audio Issues

If you cannot un-mute yourself and are using audio...

  • On the computer:
    • Try calling in! Your internet be too slow to support the live feed and your audio controls.
  • On the phone:
    • Make sure your phone isn’t muted and you a have good phone connection (if mobile).

If still have issues un-muting yourself, use the chat box to contact the organizer for assistance.
